It’s the perfect location to enjoy the real Spain that many holiday-makers never get to experience. Local wildlife is always there to see, from soaring eagles to bunny rabbits (probably their dinner!) but the spectacle of local fiestas all year round and all free, is astounding! There are lots of places to visit locally including markets in various places along the coast such as Cullera, Gandia, El Vergel Safari Park, Denia where you can take the ferries to Ibiza and Majorca, and many more. About an hour from Turis, The Nature Park of Oliva-Pego Marsh has a dune system. It is composed of swamp areas and paddy fields. The formation of this park is due to the silting process that made the lagoon and later went on to make the current marsh. This is an area with numerous reed rafts of clean water being traversed by two rivers the Bullent, which borders the marsh to the north and Racons, located south. With its fauna and flora the Nature Park has an important ecological value.
Near the Natural Park is the Fountain Salada, a hot spring with healing properties for the skin.
Cullera has water parks for the energetic, Valencia has a mix of the old traditional architecture for the more laid back viewer but with the modern and cultural attractions making Valencia one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations – the Llotjia de la Seda was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 1996, and the city of Arts and Sciences – an entertainment-based complex with Planetarium and IMAX is situated at the end of the former riverbed of the River Turia, which was drained and rerouted after a catastrophic flood in 1957. Now why can’t they do that here? The old riverbed was turned into a picturesque sunken park.
The Valencian Institute of Modern Art houses both permanent collections and temporary exhibitions of contemporary art and photography. There is also sailing, hiking, mountain biking, swimming, fishing, beach volleyball, karting and horse riding that will let you discover the natural and cultural heritage of a real Spain. Great for: Walking holidays, Beach/rural/countryside pursuits, Cycling holidays or a winter sun break. Golf course 10kms.
